Periodontitis present as local destructive disease in periodontium and thus require a much specific treatment. The traditional scaling and root planing therapy alone is not sufficient for treatment of moderate to severe periodontal pocket because of its relative time consumption and inaccessibility in deep pocket. Thus systemic and local administration of drugs is recommended. Local Drug Delivery (LDD) provides specificity by acting on the site of infection. Local drug delivery systems have been used from late 1970’s. They come in various forms like gel, films, fibers, nano-particles, micro-particles, vesicular systems etc. The use of herbal medication as a Local Drug Delivery agent came in limelight in 2011;the different agents available areNeem, Aloe-vera, Lemon-grass, Green tea, Tea tree oil, Curcumin, Oak, Coriander, Babul, Bakul.en_US
