Abstract: | Green tea has been the topic of discussion in health care fraternity since a long time but recently the interest in this has increased in light of the evidences that have come up. Green tea can be consumed as a drink with many systemic effects or it can also be used as a topical application with localized effects. Because of its active ingredients, green tea has multiple functions which collective prove to be beneficial to the oral and periodontal health. The periodontal effects of green tea include inhibiting the growth of certain known periodontal microbiota, reducing the inflammatory load and preventing bone resorption. The aim of this evidence based literature review is to give a brief introduction of the properties of green tea and to shed light on the recent evidences regarding the role of green tea on periodontal health. |
