dc.description.abstract | Background: chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a condition of non-healing perforation of the tympanic membrane associated with chronic inflammatory changes of the Muco-periosteum of the middle ear cleft resulting in mucoid or mucopurulent otorrhea of more than three months duration. Otitis media is an inflammation of the middle ear & mastoid process, which could be acute purulent otitis media, otitis media with effusion and chronic suppurative otitis media. Methodology: The patients with active aural discharge for more than 3 months were included in the study. The ear swab was taken and further subjected to aerobic culture and antimicrobial sensitivity as per the standard microbiological procedure. Result: A total of 39/421(9.26%) Staphylococcus aureus isolated from the patients suffering from chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM). The majority of the patients suffering from staphylococcal CSOM infections were male 31/39(79.5%) and most of them were from the out-patient department 28/39(71.8%). The average mean age of the patients was 34.59±14.73 years. Except for Linezolid, Vancomycin, and Ceftaroline, almost all the antibiotics were >90% resistant against Staphylococcus aureus isolated from CSOM infection. | en_US |
